This workshop, led by Kumiko Iwasawa and Christy Bartlett, provided the opportunity to explore how works of Japanese lacquer are made, how historical trends in lacquer art influence Japanese artists and how the beauty of lacquer complements the Way of Tea.  Supplementing the presentation was a multimedia opportunity to view exquisite lacquer objects.

Kumiko Iwasawa Vadas is the proprietor of Iwasawa Oriental Art, an oriental antique gallery in Los Gatos, founded in 1982.  She is the regional chairperson of the International Netsuke Society and founder of the Netsuke & Japanese Art Online Research Center.  Christy Barlett is the Director of the Urasenke Foundation, San Francisco.
